A day after the service unveiled a massive shake up, a two-star general’s email sheds light on additional ground combat vehicle cuts and plans to accelerate work on a Bradley replacement and future Abrams tank.
The US Army is working to design two new ground vehicles - and is trying to adjust on the fly to the threats from loitering munitions, a top general tells Breaking Defense.
The Army spent 2023 looking for ways to refill its weapon stockpiles, preparing for future conflicts and welcoming a new chief.
“Expect to see as the [program manager] comes out with the acquisition strategy, a lot of competition investments,” said Army Under Secretary Gabe Camarillo.
“My instinct is that this tank needs to be able to survive close combat with adversaries at 100 meters,” said Brig. Gen. Geoffrey Norman, director of the Next-Generation Combat Vehicle Cross Functional Team.
